Today I considered why the Bluebird nor the Robin come to bird feeders. Rather then "look it up" and give a clinical and probably accurate description (where's the fun in that?) I considered relating it to people and our characteristics.
Most of us go to the Feeders. Why not? It's convenient, all our friends are there, the food's affordable and usually dependable. But there are a few among us that do not go; there's that elusive Bluebird personality that is truly his own man.
He builds his own home, keeps his family warm and safe and his mental energy is spent only on improving surrounding conditions. He walks among us and works among us but when it is time to self indulge, he does it privately and he does it on his own terms. Wonder why?
Is he elusive by choice or does he have S.A.D.; Social Anxiety Disorder?

Then there is the Robin personality. The first bird to rise and the last bird to roost, but again, never joins his peers at the feeders. He too will hop near all allies but alas, his family stays pretty much together and he most certainly will fight others for their worms. And yet, the Robin personality shows little interest in where the masses gather and keeps his socialization to professionalism only.
Wonder what we would call them in the human world? Surely they are not racist!! Surely it isn't a religious belief that keeps them in their own community diner! They definitely have not been put in quarantine! They're not in school and separated by age and uniform. What could it be?
I happen to love these two personality types. I am not one of them. I don't think I am anyway. But I do admire loners who are mentally well adjusted; is that an oxymoron? There is a peace about them and sometimes an underlying joy can be detected. Wonder if you think because we gather on the Vine that we are not loners? Or is this the new gathering place for loners, the Internet?
Just talking and wondering aloud? Do you think we are the masses or one of these beautiful birds?
Or do our beaks just not fit the average feeders?
